CRAHD is the local health department to the towns of Old Saybrook, Clinton, Deep River, Haddam and Chester. Our staff includes a Director of Health, 3 Registered Sanitarians, an Office Manager, a Public Health Nurse and 2 contractual Registered Sanitarians.
Scott has been in the field of public health for approximately 20 years. He started his publc health career in Clinton, CT and then worked for the Town of Old Saybrook until the Town became part of the newly created Connecticut River Area Health District. Scott was a key component in the formation of the District and he is currently the Director of Health. Scott has an undergraduate degree in Public Health from Southern CT State University a Masters degree in Health Administration from the University of New Haven and a Masters degree in Public Health from Walden University.
Employed in Public Health for 8 years, Steve began with the Colchester Health Department and transitioned to the Chatham Health District prior to joining CRAHD. Previously, Steve worked extensively in the food service industry and provided training, speaking and consultative services internationally. He is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, and holds a Bachelor's of Science degree from the University of New Haven. Steve is a member of the Connecticut Environmental Health Association.
Chris began her career in Old Saybrook as a records clerk for the Old Saybrook Police Department. In 1999, she became an administrative assistant for the First Selectman. When the Connecticut River Area Health District formed in 2006, Chris transferred to the health district and has served as its first and only Office Manager. Chris is a long time resident of Old Saybrook where she lives with her husband Steve.
Ryan has been in the field of Public health for over 14 years. He started his career as a Sanitarian working for the town of Madison. After leaving Madison, he became Town Sanitarian for the Town of Clinton and transferred to CRAHD when the district was created. After a period of years living out of the state, Ryan returned to Connecticut. He worked again as a Sanitarian for the Trumbull-Monroe Health District and more recently joined CRAHD staff in January of 2015.
Ryan is certified in Food, on-site sewage disposal, lead inspection, and is a Certified Pool Operator(CPO). Ryan has an undergraduate degree in Public Health from Southern Connecticut State University and a Masters Degree in Public Administration (MPA) from the University of New Haven.
Rebecca has been employed in Public Health for over 6 years. Prior to joining CRAHD she worked for the Central Connecticut Health District as the Registered Sanitarian for Wethersfield. She then took some time off to be with her growing family. She holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Southern Connecticut State University.
Sherry has been a registered nurse for 28 years in varying fields of nursing. Sherry began working in trauma and heart transplants at Hartford hospital and has been with CRAHD as the Public Health Nurse and Emergency preparedness coordinator since 2009. Sherry has her Bachelors degree in Nursing and Biology from St. Joseph University and her Infection Prevention studies since 2005. Sherry also presently works in Infection Prevention and Wound Care management. Sherry also teaches allied health at Three Rivers Community College.
Zach has been in the field of public health since 2015. After graduating from SCSU with a BS in Public Health in May 2015, he interned at East Shore District Health Department, primarily focusing on water quality and the Shoreline Sanitary Survey. Shortly after, Zach attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst for his Master of Public Health (MPH) in Environmental Health Sciences, where he graduated in May 2017. At UMass, Zach focused on evaluating the relationship between precipitation and beach water quality, as well as assessing drive thru worker’s exposure to air pollutants at a local fast food restaurant. After graduating UMass, Zach was hired as a Sanitarian at the Westbrook and Essex Health Departments, where he earned his Registered Sanitarian License, CT Food Inspector Certification, Phase I & II Septic Certification, and Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor Certification. Zach is a member of the Connecticut Environmental Health Association (CEHA) and has been with CRAHD since April 2018.
